School Principal / Head Coach (Now Hiring)
One Liner: The Principal will get kids to joyfully take action to improve their world and read at significantly higher levels with a staff that feels cared for and has the tools and skills needed to succeed.
ABOUT ALI ACADEMY
We are not just a school. We are creating a social justice community where education is the byproduct of joyful meaningful work that improves lives. We believe deeply that every child, and every adult, is capable of greatness in spite of their challenges. Our power will not be in creating an amazing school or network of schools. Our power will be in modeling and sharing with other schools and districts how to achieve great results, particularly in reading, while simultaneously having kids and teachers (Coaches) engaged in joyful, meaningful work. We are seeking to be a model in education. We are a proposed, free, K through 12, social justice public charter school in North City that aims to serve children and families in Saint Louis, MO. We will start with a sixth grade in the Fall of 2023 and grow each year. We exist to empower scholars to achieve academic, professional, communal and personal greatness by focusing on relevance, rigor, and righteousness.
We constantly make the analogy between the “fight” on the field, in the arena, or in the ring and the fight in life so we refer to our teachers as coaches. A coach teaches yes… But a coach also cares, encourages, connects, believes, supports, empowers, and inspires.
THE PRINCIPAL POSITION
The Principal (Head Coach) will lead the school, academically, operationally, and culturally. The Head Coach will summon the greatness in every teacher in order to invoke the greatness of every child. The Head Coach is responsible for implementing a powerful vision for student achievement and motivating others to follow that vision through effective planning, execution, feedback and support. The Head Coach must coordinate the work of various teams and cultivate a spirit of teamwork to drive high levels of scholar achievement, particularly in reading. The Head Coach must consistently strive to embody our core values, the GREATS, and inspire others to do the same.
COMPENSATION
We offer a generous compensation package ($90-$110 K) including benefits.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND & WORK EXPERIENCE
Proven record of academic achievement, preferably in reading.
Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred.
At least 3 years teaching.
At least 2 years in school leadership.
STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT & INSTRUCTIONAL LEADERSHIP
Lead our literacy program and assume personal responsibility for all kids making significant improvement in reading.
Lead and oversee the school’s instructional program. Ensure the integration of our relevance, rigor, and righteousness pillars in all content areas in a manner that significantly adds to the skills and or knowledge of all scholars.
Analyze data with teams and teachers regularly to maximize scholar performance.
Ensure that every scholar shows dramatic achievement gains and that the school meets the ambitious performance goals set by its charter.
Design and create systems for assessments and the use of assessment results.
Identify best practice and ensure consistency and a high level of instructional quality in every class, every day, for every scholar.
STAFF DEVELOPMENT & EVALUATION
Create systems to ensure the planning of impactful professional development for all staff.
Ensure that the school’s instructional team has the skills and knowledge necessary for excellent instruction.
Create systems to ensure the proper supervision, observation, support and evaluation of all school staff.
Interview and select staff members that will significantly advance the mission of Ali Academy.
PARENT & COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP
Cultivate positive relationships with parents and the local community.
Guarantee consistent, timely, and courteous communication between the school and parents.
Develop and manage systems and opportunities for parent and community involvement.
LEADERSHIP & MANAGEMENT
Ensure that the school runs smoothly, efficiently, and on budget
Develop a strong staff Huddle (Adult groups that help to create strong staff culture) and Huddle program.
Correspond with the CEO and provide timely reports on school performance including but not limited to the following: Academic performance, staff morale, enrollment, attendance, assessments, HR matters, and technology.
SKILLS & CHARACTERISTICS
Excellent organizational, planning, communication and implementation skills are a must.
Self-directed but receptive to feedback.
Must exemplify initiative, leadership, and tenacity.
Must exemplify maturity, humility, and a strong work ethic.
Strong moral sense and ability to hold others accountable.
Must be flexible and able to multi-task; can work within an ambiguous, fast-moving environment, while also driving toward clarity and solutions.
Must be relentless and a humble team player willing to roll up their sleeves to get the job done.
